Natural Induction ~ Turning Breech Babies

Is there such a thing as natural induction or naturally turning breech babies?? I receive calls all the time, "Do you induce? Do you turn breech babies?" If only I had a magic button! No, of course I don't do anything of the sort and there are no such magic buttons. As we say in Hebrew, "B'shaah tova." At the right time. There is no early or late, just when G-d wants it. What I do do is I help the body to naturally do what it knows how to do. For induction (ONLY of full-term women who are being told that they will be medically induced, such as post-date, waters breaking, etc.) I describe it as putting wood onto the fire. Through reflexology we stimulate the hormonal system and help labor along in their natural process. We also massage the broad ligaments and lower back, releasing tension. The treatment is pleasant and relaxing. It works about 95% of the time and 100% the woman leaves feeling more confident about birth and relaxed. Sometimes, but not frequently a second treatment is needed.

For turning breech babies we do NOT actually turn the baby. We (only after 36 weeks and with a confirmation of ultrasound that the baby is in fact breech) gently massage the broad ligaments and lower back region, releasing congestion and making more space for the baby to turn on its own. We also combine the massage with a reflexology session that sends messages to the baby to turn, if it's safe to turn. How often does it work? About 70% of the time. The treatment is relaxing and pleasant. Sometimes a second treatment is needed.

Hi Elana,

I want to thank you very much for our session this morning. A full hour of physical, emotional and maybe most importantly, spiritual nurturing.

Something really changed for me after spending time with you. Although I had adopted the attitude that I will go along with the plan of Hashem even if that means being induced instead of my imagined natural birth, I kind of felt that the birth would be what it would be and I will endure whatever I  need to and I will enjoy my new baby afterwards IYH.

But I learnt something so invaluable from you.

I learnt that the birth can and will be beautiful because one can make it beautiful in any situation because beauty means being connected to Hashem.

And I feel this newfound excitement for the birth that even though the technicalities may not be how I imagined it, it can still be as beautiful as I imagined it. Of course it may still happen without induction, but with this outlook, the technicalities aren’t relevant.

Such a special lesson and I am so, so grateful.

With much gratitude,
S.L.
